Searching the Invisible Web

"Everyone" knows that the Internet is a growing, living entity that cannot be measured accurately.  "Everyone also realizes that anyone can put anything they want on the web from anywhere in the world.

But, do YOU know...

bulletthat when you "search the web" with any of the traditional search "engines" you can only get to a very small percentage of the web?
bulletthat the MOST you can see using engines like Google, Alltheweb, Altavista, or even Yahoo is about 20% of the entire web?
bulletthat each search engine looks at different parts of the web?
bulletthat many engines are paid to put specific websites higher on your hit list than others?
bulletthat many engines look only at the first or second layer of a website for your keywords which is why you sometimes don't get a hit on a valuable site?
bulletusing META-ENGINES you can enlarge your "net" of hits?
bulletnot all search engines are created equal?
bulletsome of the search tools you use aren't even search "engines" but directories?
bulletthere are thousands of search engines available for your use, some for specific types of information?

If you didn't know, then here is your chance to learn some wonderful skills at improving your searches and the results!  If you did, then take some time to refresh your knowledge and update yourself.  Some things may have changed!
