This is a one-semester, inquiry-based course focusing on various analytical techniques used in the scientific community. Laboratory experiences will expose students to the synthesis, separation and identification of organic compounds. Topics may include: forensics, organic chemistry, spectroscopy, polymer chemistry. The course will culminate with a research project, including the publication of its results. While not preparing a student for the AP examination, it will offer college-bound students a background in chemical analysis. Students considering this course should be self-directed learners with strong reading comprehension skills. Students should consider their entire schedule when selecting a weighted course.
Level: 10, 11, 12 Semesters: 1 Credit: 0.5 (weighted)
Prerequisites: Successful completion of Enriched Chemistry or Chemistry
Lab fee required
