Syllabus

This syllabus and any material that is needed for informational purposes can be found at my website   http://www.ncusd203.org/central/html/what/math/kbell/

This includes supplemental material, class notes and calendars to name a few.

bulletClass Materials.   You need to bring your book, writing utensil, a 3-ring binder (for organization purposes), graph paper/spiral notebook, 6 inch ruler, and your graphing calculator.  Students who PERSISTENTLY do not bring their book to class will be assigned a teacher detention assigned by me to be served the next morning before school 7:15 am IN MY ROOM 63.  If the book issue continues, we'll get your parents involved.

bulletCalculator.  You are not to share calculators during tests and quizzes.  Nor should you be playing games during math class.  I reserve the right to delete your games if this becomes a problem.  You are responsible for the upkeep of your calculator.  If your calculator batteries die, be sure you have an extra set.  During a test you will not borrow one from me.

bulletClassroom Behavior.   You will show respect for your classmates at all times, honoring their rite to answer questions and ask questions without ridicule.  You will contribute to the enjoyable climate in the room.  Listen respectfully to the speaker.  You will take notes during the teaching/learning time during the period.  You will not sleep or put your head down during class.  This will result in an immediate referral to your dean.

bulletFood and Drink.  There is to be no food eaten in the classroom.  The only drink that you may have is water.  Please communicate with me if there are medical issues that I need to know about.

bulletAcademic Honesty.  All of the work that you turn in for credit will be completed by you and only you.  If I learn that cheating (copying someone else's work or letting someone copy your work) has gone on, I will give a zero for the assignment and contact your parents as well as write a referral to your dean.  Please do your own work to insure your own future success.

bulletTests and Quizzes.  Students will have a chapter test (100 points) at the end of the chapters and quizzes will be given around the middle of each chapter.  If surprise quizzes are given, they are worth about 20 points and you can use your notes and homework out of your binder.

bulletHomework.   Students who want to be prepared for class will do their homework in a timely manner.  Students who do their assignment outside of the school setting usually remember the lesson better than those who only do their work at school.  Homework should take about 30 minutes to do. Students should do their work on graph paper so when they need a graph they can sketch one right there on the paper. If the time needed to finish the homework well is more than an hour, students should seek extra help in the mornings.  Students will be given homework quizzes to check their work.  10 problems will be designated to be copied from their binder onto my page.  I will grade these problems for the appropriate work and correct answer.  If you show No work you will receive no Credit!!

bulletGrades.  Your grade is based upon the total points you earn.  When you divide your total by the total possible points, you will get a percentage.  Your grades will always be visible on the web using the i-Parent link.  It is your responsibility to check your grades and make sure that I have entered them correctly and you are not missing any grades.  Your grades will be located in Term 1 for semester 1 and Term 3 for semester 2.  In this class your 80 % is one continuous term, it is not broken into two quarters.  It is crucial that you start the semester well and continually get better.  Do not wait to get it going.  Success breeds itself.  Be successful right from the beginning.  You'll be glad you did.  I reserve the rite to round you grade as I deem appropriate.  An 89 .5% may or may not be rounded.  This all depends on how well you do your homework.  Your grading scale is:
bullet90-100        A
bullet80-89           B
bullet70-79           C
bullet60-69           D
bulletbelow 60     F

Semester grades:  80% of Semester work + 20% of Exam
