Mrs. Fischer – Honors Advanced Algebra
Every student will be required to bring the following materials to class everyday:
Spiral notebook or loose-leaf notebook for math only
Pencils
Textbook
Graphing Calculator
I will strictly enforce attendance and punctuality in accordance with school rules and regulations. Students will be considered tardy if they are not in their seats when the bell rings.
Make-up tests and quizzes should be completed before or after school or during your free period the day following any absence. If you are absent at the time of any quiz or test that offered extra credit points, these points will not be offered on a make-up test. If you know in advance that you will be absent on the day of a test or quiz (field trip, etc.) make arrangements to take the test before the absence.
Homework assignments should be neat and well labeled. All answers should be checked for accuracy. At least 30 minutes of time outside of class should be planned for daily math study.
Active participation in the classroom (both physically and mentally) is an essential part of the course. Participation includes taking notes and voluntary participation and cooperation in board work, discussion, and all other classroom activities. A safe and respectful environment is expected within the classroom and throughout the school; if you experience anything less, please speak with me or with anyone else in authority.
Semester 1: Chapters 1-5 and The Pollster’s Dilemma; Semester 2: Chapters 6-10.
Your final grade will be determined by dividing the total number of points you earn on tests, quizzes, homework, and projects by the total number of possible points. You should keep a record of all of your grades so you know where you stand at all times. (A: 90-100; B: 80-89; C: 70-79; D: 60-69.) Your grades will be cumulative throughout the semester. Your semester grade will be determined by the following formula: The total two quarters’ grade will count 80%, and the semester exam will count 20%.
Asking questions is extremely important in order to
understand Honors Advanced Algebra. If
you are in doubt, please ask. I am
available before school by
Collaboration on homework is encouraged. Copying homework is forbidden. You may explain any of your solutions to a fellow student. You may not allow another student to copy your work. ***If another student examines your work, they must return it before they write anything down.*** Violating this policy will result in a zero on the homework or on the next homework quiz.
The TI-89 and other CAS calculators may not be used on tests and quizzes in this course. You may use these calculators during the year, but you are responsible for having an approved calculator for tests and quizzes.
