The goal of the Art Division is to develop students' visual sensitivity and promote creative thinking through the use of tools, materials and processes, as well as relate the universality of artistic expression, the role of specific artists and their contribution to culture and society. The Art Division of the Humanities Department offers the student a wide variety of semester course selections.
TWO-DIMENSIONAL COURSEWORKDesign Concepts and Drawing 1 provide a solid foundation in the basic art skills necessary for additional two-dimensional coursework. Students may then progress through a variety of courses which include: Drawing 2, Painting 1 and 2, Commercial Illustration and Design, and Digital Art 1 and 2. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors may enroll in Photography 1 and 2.
THREE-DIMENSIONAL COURSEWORK Course selections for three-dimensional areas include Ceramics 1 and 2, and Jewelry/ Metals 1 and 2. ADVANCED STUDY IN ARTNew for the 2006-2007 school year, Advanced Placement Art History offers motivated students the opportunity for in-depth study in this area. Art Studio courses are advanced level courses for students who have completed the 1 and 2 sequence in any given subject area. (Example: Drawing 1, 2, then Studio 1 Drawing/Painting.) After completing two semesters of Studio art, Art Independent Study gives a student an opportunity to receive an additional semester of credit in an area of specialization. This course requires a written contract and instructor approval. |
