My Expectations I have high expectations for all of my students. I expect that every student comes prepared for class everyday. I also expect that everyone tries their hardest and does the best work that they are capable of doing. Remember, you will only get out of something what you are willing to put into it.
Grading scale: 90-100 A Your quarter grade will be divided into the following 5 categories:
Tests/Projects: Summative written chapter tests, as well as some presentations, skits, or unit projects will be included in this category. Quizzes: Quizzes will be mostly announced at least a week in advance. They will be made up of written, oral, or listening activities. If you are absent for a quiz, you will have to make an appointment to come and make it up with me. Homework: Homework will be assigned almost everyday. Each assignment will be on the weekly calendar. It is your job to check the calendar to see what the homework is for that day. It is your responsibility to have your homework out to be checked in at the beginning of class. Each assignment is worth 5 points. Incomplete assignments do not receive any credit. If you leave your homework in your locker or at home, it is the same as not doing it. When you are authorized absent, it is your responsibility to show makeup work to me, or it will remain a 0. You will have three (3) days to show me missing work or it will not count. No credit will be given if the absence is unauthorized. Participation: This category is based on many different things. Points will be given for speaking in Spanish, volunteering, answering questions in class, following class rules, and bringing your materials to class everyday. But at the same time, points are easily taken away. You will lose points for not coming to class prepared, arriving tardy, and being disrespectful of you classmates and/or the teacher, and other inappropriate behavior. Journal: Journals are notebooks that the students will be writing in during class. This notebook will be left in the classroom. The journals will be on different topics throughout the semesters. Each journal will be graded on content, correct usage of learned grammar points, usage of the chapter's vocabulary, but most of all: EFFORT. If there are any questions about the above categories, please see me.
I know that I shouldn't have to say this, but I will for good measure. As stated in the Red Book: "Cheating or plagiarizing at any level, at any time, will not be tolerated. Consequently, when evidence of cheating or plagiarism exists, the assignment will receive NO credit, the student has no opportunity to make up that work, and the deans will be notified. In addition, any student who chooses to share his or her work with another will also lose credit. That credit will be lost even if the student claims to have no knowledge of the other person's using the original paper" *Using an online Spanish translator to do your work is considered cheating. You can use an online translator to look up a few words if needed. It is very important that you know what the words mean that you are using.* Please note, if you think that I will not be able to tell if you are using an online translator, please know that it is very easy for fluent speakers of Spanish to spot the use of one of these devices. Spanish is to be spoken in class as much as possible. I expect all questions to be asked in Spanish, unless there is a problem or an emergency. I anticipate a fun-filled year with all of you, but that will depend in large part to what you are will to put into it.
