Mrs. Barz attended St. Mary’s College, South Bend. Her Sophomore year she attended the University of Madrid, Facultad de Filosofía y Letras. She attended the University of Notre Dame for graduate school, receiving a Master’s Degree in Spanish Literature. Mrs. Barz has been teaching for 33 years. Frau Betterman completed her undergraduate work in German and mathematics at Eberhard-Karls-Universität (Tübingen) and Valparaiso University. She holds an M.A. degree in German and an M.A. degree in West European Studies from Indiana University (Bloomington) and has done additional work at Northwestern University (French & theatre), the University of Oregon (German), and Bowling Green State University (German). During 1999-2000 Frau Betterman was a Fulbright exchange teacher in Güstrow (Germany). Mr. Davis is teaching Spanish One and Three for the 2005-06 school year. He has been teaching for 12 years, having taught for six years at Fenwick High School in Oak Park, IL, and six years at Naperville Central. He holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Dominican University in River Forest. Mr. Davis teaches his classes using an approach called Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS). This approach derives its success from current research in Second Language Acquisition, and has continued to develop and improve over the last 20 years. He has attended national conferences for TPRS, and he is also a member of the Round Table Institute on Second Language Acquisition at National-Louis University. Mr. Gamboa is a graduate of East Leyden High School in Franklin Park, IL. He completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and received his high school teaching certification from Rosary College in River Forest, IL. After his second year at Rosary, he spent the summer in Buenos Aires, Argentina studying and living with an Argentine family. After two years of teaching, he completed his Master of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature from Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT, during which time he lived in Madrid, Spain for an academic year completing that degree. Upon returning from Spain, he began a Master of Arts in Educational Administration, completing it in 2001. He has taught in three high schools, all in the Chicagoland area, and has been at Central as Instructional Coordinator since 2002. Mrs. Gasser, teacher of Spanish, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish secondary education from Western Illinois University and a Master of Arts in Teaching Spanish from Indiana University-Bloomington. She has studied abroad in Spain and México. “Señora G.” has been at Naperville Central since 1994 and currently teaches levels I, II and V. Ms. Jahnke holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Latin. She graduated from the School of Education at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. She sponsors Latin Club and Broadway in Central, a group that goes to see Broadway shows performed in Chicago. An NCHS alumna herself, she came back to Central once she graduated and is happy to be part of the Foreign Language department. Mr. Kaisling graduated from the University of Illinois at Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Teaching of Spanish. He is currently working on his Masters degree in Linguistics with a focus on teaching English as a Second Language. Also, he is the head sophomore girls volleyball coach and a freshmen boys volleyball coach. Mrs. Scarpino graduated from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa with Bachelor’s of Arts degrees in Spanish and art. She earned her Master’s in Computer Education from National-Louis University. Since then she has earned teacher certification for both Computer Science and Library Media. She continues to be a student of computer technology. Mrs. Schultz received a bachelor in German language arts and art education in Germany. In addition, she also has the German equivalent to a masters in Education. The highest degree she obtained in the US is a masters degree in German language. Above the masters degree Mrs. Schultz has done extensive course work in education and computer classes. She studied Spanish in Spain and Mexico and has taught Spanish for more than 15 years. Mrs. Schultz has been teaching for 25 years, 12 of them at Naperville Central. Mrs. Spitalli holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish and Public Relations from Bradley University, a Master of Arts degree in Spanish Language and Literature from Northern Illinois University, and a Master of Arts in Education degree from Benedictine University. She has been teaching at Naperville Central High School for 5 years, after teaching part-time for several years at several community colleges in the Chicagoland area. She enjoys traveling in Mexico and has also visited Spain and Puerto Rico. One of her favorite authors is Chilean-American Isabel Allende. In addition to spending time with her husband and two children, Sra. Spitalli enjoys doing needlework and collecting art glass. Mrs. Watson studied Spanish at Illinois State University and the Universidad de Sevilla in Spain. She received her certification for teaching at Benedictine University in Lisle, IL. Barbara has lived in Spain and traveled extensively in Spain and Mexico. She is a member of Las Mujeres Latinas, a Latin women's group in the Naperville area. She is a member of ACTFL and attended the NTPRS conference in Denver, CO in 2007. Mr. Whitt holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a certificate in International Studies-Europe from Ohio University and a Master of Arts degree in French Literature from Ohio University. Before coming to NCHS, he taught as an instructor at the Ohio University and South Point High School.
Mrs. Zinnecker holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double major in Spanish and French from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, a Master of Arts degree in French from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a Master of Science in Education degree in educational administration from Northern Illinois University. She is a member of ACTFL and AATF. Before coming to NCHS, she taught as an instructor at the University of Nebraska, and at Princeville High School and Plainfield High School. She enjoys sponsoring the French Club and chaperoning students on annual spring trips to France. |
