Dear Parent or Guardian,

   The purpose of this letter is to inform you how you can access your son/daughter’s grade on line as well as give you an overview of the course.

    I look forward to working with your son/daughter this summer in Acting.  Acting offers students the opportunity to develop his or her presentation skills using text, creating scenes using Second City Improvisational Exercises, scripting text using Northwestern’s Performance Studies scripting text approach, reading text in order to present a character, using an acting approach and feeling comfortable in front of an audience. 

A brief overview of the course includes:

Week 1:  introduction to the stage and its terms, a historical view of acting, improvisation basics, sight reading text

Week 2:  Improvisational what and where exercises, film study  (how environment affects character) Who exercises, Contemporary Monologue study

Week 3:  Practice and hone monologues for presentation.  The Glass Menagerie and scene study

Week 4:  Final performance of scenes from The Glass Menagerie and scripting text of a short story.

Week 5:  Practice scripted text performance of story and classical monologue study of Shakespeare.  A Midsummer’s Night Dream

Week 6:  Final presentation of classical monologues.  Revisiting of contemporary monologues and final presentation of contemporary and classical monologues.  Final.

2.      Scroll down my page and you will link onto your class.  The syllabus is accessible through this page as well as any important information, including a link for your grade.  I will give you a login during the first week of summer school and begin posting your grades so that they are available to you by Monday, June 9.
