What's the poetry of everyday life for most of you? Perhaps poetry people predominantly ponder is pop and Puff Daddy/P. Diddy (excuse the alliteration, please).

Step 1: Look for a song or rap that has quality lyrics. Find the words to the song on the web.  Ideally, then, listen to the song and read along as you listen. Pay attention to what ideas are written there. Try to really understand what they mean about life. Be sure that you pick a song that will not offend (no profanity, degradation of women, etc.--run it by me first if you have a question).

Step 2: Explain why the song you chose is excellent poetry, and then do the following:

	identify the key words that convey the song's meaning
	identify any poetic devices
	explain the significance of the song to you personally

Here's a Simon and Garfunkel song that Mr. Tompkins thinks is a good choice. Feel free to use this one if another one doesn't strike your fancy.
