Poetry: More than Words? Visual art is often full of meaning though no words appear. Visual artists, like poets, pack a lot of meaning in a small amount of space.
Your task is:
1. Find a picture at one of the sites below that is full of meaning.

The Artchive2. Print a copy of your photo or painting. Or, for you who know how, copy and insert the art into a Microsoft Word document and continue on to the next step.
3. Take a close look and then write a short description of the picture (in prose). Consider who, what, when, where, why, and how. Then ask yourself what is surprising about the picture. What is the theme of the picture? What is the message or the point the artist is trying to get across?
4. Write a new, original title for this photo or painting.
5. Imagine you are the artist who has painted the picture or you are a person watching the scene portrayed. Write a poem as is you were that person that conveys the theme of the art. The poem should be between 12 and 20 lines. Do not feel compelled to make your poem rhyme.
