Acting

Who should take this course?  Anyone who desires to improve basic acting skills, improvisation, character analysis and development, and scene study.

Course focus/ umbrella question: What skills are required to play a believable character in a scene or play?

Non-negotiable assignments required of all students :

• Theatre vocabulary study
• Basic improvisation
• Character analysis
• Scene analysis
• Play reading
• Class participation

Required reading:  Acting is Believing

Course specific policies:

• The student must be prepared to perform on their assigned day.
• No make-up time is granted for students who are not prepared on assigned day

Student expectations:

• Read a variety of scripts
• Rehearse scenes
• Memorize parts
• Take part in classroom improvisations and scenes
• Analyze scenes
• Analyze characters

Other relevant and important information:  Acting can be a stepping stone for students who wish to participate in Theatre Central activities. Many students go on to audition for full length shows.
