Floral Design Team STATE Winners 2007

Students competed on February 23, 2007 at Joliet Junior College.

The Floral Design Team competed Friday, February 23^rd at the State Floral Design Contest at Joliet Junior College and placed 1^st. Each team member had to create a centerpiece, a corsage, take a written test, and identify flowers, plants, tools, and equipment. Of our team members, Jennifer Martynowicz placed 1^st individual over all 73 contestants, Sarah Casey placed 4^th, Liz Pucci placed 6^th, Julie Jacques placed 12^th, and Nina Larson placed 19^th.

The Floral Design Team is selected from the Advanced Floral Design Classes. The students are graded on their centerpiece and corsage design skills, basic knowledge of the floral industry, and their ability to identify different flowers, foliage, flowering plants, tools, and equipment. All the students in the Advanced Floral Design classes are part of the team as they have worked together in class to build their skill and knowledge of the floral industry. Each individual has strived to increase the ability of the top 5 team members. Congratulations to all the 2007 advanced floral students and a special congratulations to those top 5 individuals who strived to be the best!

The NCHS Floral Design Team placed 1^st in State February 17, 2006. The team is composed of students from the Advanced Floral Design class and the Horticulture Club. A five member team was selected from the groups through local competitions. The State competition was held at Joliet Junior College and was sponsored by the Horticulture Department at JJC. Seventeen total teams were comprised of 84 individuals from around the State. Naperville Central with 1246 total points earned 1^st place. Oswego West High School (1189 Points) 2^nd place and Chicago High School for Ag Sciences (1187 points) 3^rdplace.
