Advanced Floral DesignMr. Theimer AIFD, ICPF
This course is designed to build upon the basic skill developed in the beginning floral design course. The students will develop higher skill levels in making boutonnieres and corsages and other centerpieces. They will be exposed to wedding, funeral, and party designs. The business aspect is also covered for the basic understanding of business operation and the necessary skills needed in the daily operations of the floral industry. Career potentials are also covered and field trips are to expose the students to the industry and job opportunities. Level: 9,10,11,12 Semesters: 1 Credit: 1/2* *May be taken in partial fulfillment of the graduation science or fine arts requirements. Prerequisite: You must complete Floral Design I. Lab Fee plus materials cost for selected projects. Lab Fee: $30.00
Course Objectives: Students will be able to: Understand basic and advanced design levels of boutonnieres and corsages for different occasions. Understand business trends, opportunities, types of businesses, basic business operations. Understand advertising, marketing, ordering, billing, cost accounting of the business. Understand the history of floral designs and the trends of today and the future. Design basic and advanced styles of centerpieces Identify fresh flowers and foliage, dry flowers and foliage, containers and equipment Understand wedding and funeral operations, design skills of casket pieces, sprays, nose‑bouquets, cascade bouquets; servicing of both, and pricing. Understand basic procedures in starting a business. Create holiday designs Glazing silk flowers for basket designs
Grading: 100‑90 = A First Quarter = 40% 89‑80 = B Second Quarter = 40% 79‑70 = C Final Exam = 20% 69‑60 = D _________ Below 60 = F Semester Grade =100%
* All grades will be based on a point accumulated basis. Grades will consist of unit tests, unannounced and announced quizzes, take‑home and in‑class assignments, special projects, floral design, and class participation. Extra credit opportunities will be provided at the instructor's discretion. * Make‑up work will follow the school handbook. It is the student's responsibility to make sure all assignments are made up after an absence in the required time. * Late work will not be accepted! * Tardies will follow the school handbook. You must be in the room and at your assigned seat at the time of the bell.
Lab Fee: Your lab fee is $30.00. This covers the cost of using the equipment and misc. supplies that are used during the course. The holiday projects made during class will be available for you to purchase at cost of supplies and materials. (costs will vary depending on availability of material, costs of material, and changes of style) *** These are optional purchases. You do not have to purchase these. Arrangements not purchased by the student will be sold within the school.
