It is the objective of physical education to contribute to physical, social, emotional and mental development through participation in a variety of physical activities. The program is organized so that each student has the opportunity to participate in a variety of outdoor and indoor sports. The freshmen participate in a core (required) program. Sophomores, juniors and seniors have the opportunity to elect their activities. This core curriculum and electives include individual and team sports, gymnastics and tumbling, dance, aquatics, first aid and C.P.R., fitness activities, fitness testing, and self-improvement activities. Adapted physical education is also offered during the day, on an as needed basis. Skill progression is provided for by scheduling students in basic levels before enrolling in advanced classes. In addition to the curricular offerings, students are encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities including intramural and interscholastic athletics. Current Activity Offerings Activities from this list are offered on a selected basis as determined by the Department. All upper classmen select activities from the various groups to insure that they receive a broad-based exposure to the various types of activities. Students are required to pass 6 Fitness classes, 4 Team Sports, 3 Individual Sports, 2 Aquatics, 2 Gymnastics, 2 Dance and C.P.R. Freshman are enrolled in a core group of activities. These include, Soccer, Flag Football, Gymnastics, Square Dance, Volleyball, Basic Swimming, Wrestling, Badminton, and Fitness Orientation.
