VI. WRESTLE-OFFS
Wrestle - offs will be held four times during
the season.
1.
Red-White Scrimmage (approximately the second week of the season)
2.
The second week in December
3.
Christmas Break
4.
The third week in January (the Monday leading up to DVC)
Wrestle-offs during December and January will
occur in the morning so as to not interfere with practice time. The wrestlers
competing in a challenge match should be within 3 pounds of their competition
weight for the week, prior to the practice.
Other wrestle-offs during the year may be
necessary due to:
1.
Weight class certifications and fluctuations
2.
Disciplinary situations
3.
Illnesses or injuries
4.
Poor performance
5.
Safety of the wrestler
At any time a coach may insist on a wrestle-off.
Challenges and wrestle-off’s
will be accepted under coach’s discretion.
Wrestle-offs will determine the first string
wrestler for the following dual or tournament. Coaches will officiate except
for the Red-White scrimmage. They will determine who is first string, second
string, third string, etc. After the
scrimmage, the ladder system will be used for wrestlers (4th string must
wrestle-off 3rd string before attempting to wrestle-off 2nd string). You must beat the first string wrestler two
out of three before moving up to varsity.
When a change in the line-up is necessary and it
is not possible to have a wrestle-off due to lack of time or facilities, the
coach will determine the line-up based on what is best for the team.
A wrestler may lose his position by:
1.
Losing two wrestle-off matches for
varsity.
2.
Missing duals or tournaments due to
injury or illness.
Missing duals or tournaments due to suspension or disciplinary reasons.
