June 10th
St. Patrick
State Final
W 2-0

 

The Redhawks put the cap on their longest winning streak of the season, as they won their first state championship in another lightning quick shutout. Matt Barry took the hill for the Hawks on four weeks rest, and was able to hold the Shamrocks scoreless. Colin Bates picked up for Barry in 6th inning, and closed out the game, not allowing a hit. Sean Waszak put the Redhawks on the board when he singled in Mike Odenthal in the 2nd inning. Garrett Branisel provided the insurance when he singled in Sean Waszak in the 5th inning. That was all the Redhawks needed, as they pitched shutouts in every single state tournament game; a new IHSA record. After almost 30 years of coaching together, Bill Seiple and Phil Lawler can finally hoist the state championship trophy. REDHAWKS '06.

 

 
June 10th
Minooka
State Semifinal
W 9-0 The Redhawks clinched their first ever championship berth in a match up with the Indians of Minooka. Kyle Kaminska got the nod for the Hawks, and performed well. Kaminska pitched a complete game, throwing 98 pitches and shutting out the Indians. The offense for Naperville Central finally awoke, as they combined to knock 12 hits against Minooka pitching. Lou Johanns went 2-3, including a 2-run home run off the scoreboard. Corey Pryor picked up 3 hits, and Derek Graham slapped two hits. Andrew Guziec made his 2nd varsity appearance, and recorded a base hit in one of the biggest games of his life. The Redhawks take on St. Patrick later in the day for the State Championship.
 
June 9th
Elk Grove
State Quarterfinal
W 1-0 The IHSA state tournament started with eight teams, and in one day, the field has been reduced to four. The Redhawks are one of the four remaining teams, thanks to strong pitching and a clutch hit. Mike Odenthal delivered a game-winning walk-off single to score Sean Joyce in the bottom of the 7th inning to win the game. Odenthal and Joyce were promptly mobbed by teammates on the field. The late inning drama overshadowed another dominant pitching performance by Colin Bates. Throwing only 59 pitches, Bates held the Grenadiers scoreless the entire game. The game was the fastest game in IHSA state tournament history, only one hour and six minutes. Almost 2000 were in attendance for Bill Seiple's first ever state tournament appearance.
 
June 5th
Hinsdale Central
Supersectional
W 7-2 The Redhawks appear to be reaching their peak as they STEAMROLL into the IHSA state tournament for the first time in school history. Colin Bates pitched another complete game, his 3rd this postseason. The Redhawks took command when Garrett Branisel scored on a wild throw in the bottom of the 1st inning. In the same inning, Sean Joyce scored off a Lou Johanns sacrifice groundout. Mike Odenthal came to the plate next and blasted a triple to right-center field. Corey Pryor drove Odenthal in, and the Redhawks never looked back. Helping his own cause, Coliin Bates jacked a two-run home run to left-center field. Bates dealt all game and was able to remove himself from 4 jams. Matt Barry was even more exuberant when he learned that he can finally attend the State Tournament Barbeque.
 
June 3rd
Plainfield South
Sectional Final
W 2-1 The Redhawks advanced further into the postseason thanks to one swing of the bat. Mike Odenthal crushed a two-run homerun over the left field fence in the 4th inning to put the Redhawks for good. Kyle Kaminska pitched a complete game one-hitter, and held Plainfield South to one run the entire game. The Redhawks were able to fend off a 2nd inning jam when Sean Waszak made a diving catch in center field with 2 outs to end the inning. Derek Graham ripped a double, and Colin Bates, Lou Johanns, and Sean Waszak all picked up singles. It's on to the supersectional, for the right to play in the state tournament.
 
May 31st
Batavia
Sectional Semifinal

W 1-0

The Redhawks continued their suspenseful run towards the state championship in a sectional semifinal game against Batavia. Colin Bates stole the spotlight for the Redhawks, pitching a no-hitter in 8 innings. Bates also supported his own cause in the 2nd inning when he belted a double. Lou Johanns and Garrett Branisel made defensive plays all day for the Redhawks, protecting the 0-0 deadlock. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Derek Graham got on base when he crushed a double. Garrett Branisel was faced with a 2 strike, 2 out situation when he singled Graham home on a single to right field to win the game. It is the Redhawk's 6th walk off victory this season.
     
May 27th
Geneva
Regional Final

The Redhawks advanced to Sectionals thanks to clutch hitting by Lou Johanns. Johanns lined an eighth-inning base hit to right field, just over the glove of the Geneva first baseman, to drive home Garrett Branisel with the winning run. Johanns also drove in the other Redhawks run on a groundout in the first inning. Branisel scored both runs for the Redhawks. Starter Colin Bates went the distance to improve his record to 7-1.
 
May 24th
Aurora East
Regional Semifinal
W 6-3 The IHSA playoffs opened with a bang on Wednesday, as the Redhawks advanced to the Regional Final against the Tomcats of Aurora East. Kyle Kaminska pitched a complete game 4 hitter, to lift the Redhawks to victory. Kaminksa dealt 4 strikeouts, and only allowed one walk. Mike Odenthal went 3 for 4 and drove in three crucial runs. Corey Pryor knocked a 2 RBI single, and Sean Joyce collected 2 hits of his own, and stole 2 bases against an outmatched East Aurora team.
 
May 22nd
at Wheaton North
W 2-0 The Redhawks finished their regular season on a strong note thanks to an unlikely hero. Derek Graham crushed 2 solo home runs off Wheaton North pitching to provide the only scoring in the game. Both shots were to left center field. Brian Cullum made his first varsity pitching appearance, and looked strong, giving up only two hits. Pat Kaminska made a relief appearance and also dominated Wheaton North hitters. Sean Joyce came in and closed the game out again for the Redhawks. This game marked the end of the DVC season, and the regular season.
 
May 20th
West Aurora
Game 2

The Redhawks clinched the conference championship in the tail-end of their double header. In the mercy shortened game, Mike Odenthal went 3-3 with a triple and 2 singles. Sean Joyce also had a triple. Corey Pryor had 3 RBI's and a double. Also producing offensively was Lou Johanns, Marshall Marovich, and Colin Bates. Matt Vorderer threw out a runner from right field to end the game, and seal the conference championship. NCHS - 2006 DVC CHAMPS!
 
May 20th
West Aurora
Game 1

With the conference season on the line, the Redhawks exploded, and cliched at least a tie for 1st in the conference. Colin Bates pitched another complete game, allowing only 5 hits and one earned run. Garrett Branisel knocked a grand slam, and also got a single. Mike Odenthal and Nick Stocchero both doubled, and Sean Joyce scored two runs.
 
May 19th
At West Chicago
L 4-2 West Chicago was able to catch the Redhawks off guard, ending their four game winning streak. No substantial offense was able to manifest itself. Kevin Ericksen started the game and gave up four runs in 4 innings. Pat Kaminska relieved Ericksen, and didn't allow a run. Sean Joyce, Lou Johanns, and Colin Bates were the offensive producers, but it wasn't enough to salvage a win.
 
May 18th
West Chicago
W 6-4 Matt Barry kept his perfect record alive in a heated match up against West Chicago. Barry pitched 6 innings and turned the game over to Sean Joyce in the 7th inning, who picked up the save. Mike Odenthal jacked a home run to provide a part of the Redhawks offense. Colin Bates hit a triple and drove in 2 runs. Garrett Branisel knocked 2 hits, including a line shot to left that drove in a crucial run.
 
May 16th
At Naperville North
North Central College
W 7-4 How sweep it is. The Redhawks completed the season sweep against the Huskies in front of a large crowd at North Central College. Kyle Kaminska pitched 6 strong innings to pick up the win, and Sean Joyce pitched the bottom of the 7th, holding the Huskies scoreless. Joyce also had a day at the plate, hitting a triple and a double. Lou Johanns had a key hit with 2 strikes to drive in 2 to break a tie game. Mike Odenthal followed Johanns, and drove in 2 more. The Redhawks moved 2 games ahead of the Huskies in the DVC Conference race.
 
May 15th
Naperville North
W 4-0 The Redhawks clinched the season series against the Huskies thanks to strong pitching and timely defense. Colin Bates pitched a complete game and blanked the Huskies the entire game. He was able to avoid damage when he escaped a bases loaded jam. Derek Graham filled in at 3rd base, and was able to come up huge when he opted to tag out a runner at 3rd. Lou Johanns was a producer at the plate, and was a menace to NNHS pitching and defense all day.
 
May 9th
Wheaton North
W 7-6 Even with disappointing start, the Redhawks were able to pull off another quality conference win. The Hawks gave up 4 runs in the top of the first inning, but came right back in the bottom of the first, scoring 5. Kyle Kaminska regained his composure. Matt Barry came in and threw a quality relief appearance, and Sean Joyce closed the game out for the Redhawks. Lou Johanns knocked 3 hits, and Mike Polich got 2 RBI's. Marshall Marovich was also a key producer at the plate, and scored two runs.
 
May 5th
Wheaton Warrenville South
L 3-1 Coming off a 7 game win streak, the Redhawks were unable to finish the sweep of a Tigers. Only three Redhawks were able to collect hits: Garrett Branisel, Mike Odenthal, and Lou Johanns. Kevin Ericksen started pitching for the Redhawks, and went a solid 5 and two-thirds innings giving up only 1 earned run. Brian Colucci relieved Ericksen, and only gave up one hit and no runs, but it was not enough to tame the Tigers. The Redhawks took the season series however, 2-1.
 
May 4th
Wheaton Warrenville South
At Benedictine
W 1-0

It was a great night for baseball during the first annual "pie day" at Benedictine College. The Redhawks notched their 20th victory, and helped the fight against cancer. Colin Bates pitched an 8-inning two hit shutout to demoralize the Wheaton South Tigers. Bates was able to get out of two jams early in the game. In the eighth inning, Sean Joyce was able to push a hit between 1st and 2nd base to score Garrett Branisel, the go-ahead run. Corey Pryor sealed the deal in the bottom of the 8th inning when he threw out a runner at second. More importantly, the Redhawks and Tigers combined to raise over $2,700 for the American Cancer Society.
 
May 3rd
Glenbard North
W 7-4 The Redhawks completed the sweep of Glenbard North playing a makeup game from May 1st. Sean Joyce had himself a day: 1 single, 1 double, 2 RBI's and a stolen base. Lou Johanns also added 2 RBI's. Corey Pryor and Marshall Marovich each crushed a double of their own. Kyle Kaminska went the distance again, striking out 4, and only walking one.
 
May 2nd
At Glenbard North
W 13-4 The Redhawks notched another quality DVC victory at Glenbard North thanks to some timely hitting. Mike Odenthal singled in a 2-out run in the top of the first to put the Hawks on top. Lou Johanns crushed 2 home runs to right and right-center. Sean Joyce clobbered his own home run to insure the Redhawk's victory. Matt Barry picked up another victory, keeping his record at a perfect 6-0.
 
April 29th
Glenbard East
Game 2
W 8-7

Nothing phases Corey Pryor. After catching 7 innings in the first game, no one would have expected him to erupt during the 2nd game. Pryor had 2 doubles and a single during the extended second game. Brian Colucci started pitching for the Hawks, and went a three innings, to be relieved by Kevin Ericksen, and finally Kyle Kaminska, who picked up the save. The Redhawks finished the season sweep against Glenbard East.
     
April 29th
Glenbard East
Game 1
W 3-0 Colin Bates came through in the clutch, as he pitched the Redhawks to victory in the first game of a double-header. Bates only faced 23 batters, and allowed only 1 hit. Bates struck out 6, and only walked one. Bates helped his own cause by knocking two singles. Sean Joyce also added to the offense when he singled twice and stole a base.
     
April 27th
West Chicago
W 13-4 The Redhawks kept on rolling, as they defeated West Chicago on their home field. Sean Joyce hit a single and a double, and was able to pick up 3 RBI's. Matt Barry pitched 5 innings to pick up the win, and Kevin Ericksen closed the game out, pitching 2 innings, and striking out 3. Jake Hendrick and Garrett Branisel both stole 2 bases. Branisel was able to score 3 of the Redhawks 14 runs.
 
April 25th
At Naperville North
W 4-3 The Redhawks came into the first game of the crosstown series with energy and enthusiasm, and that energy transferred right into the ball game. With disappointing losses to Naperville North in football and basketball, the Redhawks were on a mission to salvage a win in at least one major sport. On Tuesday, they were able to do just that. Down 3-2 in the top of the 7th, Jake Hendrick beat out a grounder to the shortstop. Garrett Branisel and Lou Johanns were able to load the bases with only one out. Mike Odenthal then hit a bullet right to the centerfielder, but Jake Hendrick was able to tag-up, which tied the ballgame. Garrett Branisel gave the Redhawks the lead when he stole home on a past ball. Kyle Kaminska pitched a solid six innings, giving up only three runs, and Colin Bates pitched a 1-2-3 7th inning to pick up the save. The victory put the Redhawks back atop the DVC leaderboard.
 

April 22nd
Lockport

L 9-4 The Redhawks were unable to get the job done against the defending state champions. Lou Johanns started for the Redhawks, and was unable to hold off Lockport's bats. Kevin Ericksen and Brian Colucci also pitched in the losing effort. Sean Waszak had a key 2-RBI hit, but the Redhawks were unable to capitalize on any opportunities.
 

April 21st
At West Aurora

W 16-6 The Redhawks bats exploded in West Aurora to pick up their 4th conference victory. Sean Waszak blasted 2 Home Runs in the game off the Blackhawks. Lou Johanns and Colin Bates hit back to back home runs in the 4th inning. Matt Barry picked up his 4th win of the season, and Sean Joyce was solid during his 3 innings of relief. This game capped a 3 game week for the Redhawks, in which they picked up 2 wins, and dropped 1.
 
April 19th
Wheaton North
L 5-3 The Redhawks suffered their first conference loss in a tense game in Naperville. Colin Bates pitched a complete game for the Redhawks, but was unable to notch the win after the Falcons exploded in a four-run 7th inning. The Redhawks erased a 1-0 deficit in the 6th inning when they scored two runs sparked by a Sean Joyce single. Unfortunate plays during the top of the 7th allowed the falcons to score 4 runs. A comeback was unable to manifest itself in the bottom of the seventh, leaving the Redhawks with their first conference loss this season.
 
April 17th
At Wheaton Warrenville South
W 5-1 Kyle Kaminska pitched the Redhawks to another DVC victory, keeping the conference record perfect. Garrett Branisel slapped 2 hits and scored once. Corey Pryor reached base twice on walks, and courtesy runner Tommy Kure was able to score twice. Kaminska gave up a run in the first inning, but regained his composure to allow two hits the entire game.
 
April 15th
Barrington
W 6-1 Dominant pitching, timely hitting, and solid defense guided the Redhawks to a non-conference win against the broncos of Barrington. Matt Barry pitched 4 scoreless innings, and no walks. Kevin Ericksen and Sean Joyce closed out the game. Corey Pryor picked up two singles and Garrett Branisel added a single, a double, and a stolen base.
 
April 13th
Glenbard North
W 14-5 The Redhawks kept their conference season perfect as they defeated the Panthers in their conference home opener. Colin Bates started for the Redhawks, and pitched well in his 2nd start of the season. Lou Johanns was a Home Run shy of the cycle, and nabbed a stolen base. Garrett Branisel chipped in 2 RBI's with 2 singles.
 

April 11th
At Glenbard East

The conference season opened with a bang, as the Redhawks jetted themselves to the top of the DVC leaderboard. A back and forth game ended in mercy rule after a 9-run 6th inning. Kyle Kaminska was the starting pitcher for the Redhawks, and Brian Colucci relieved Kaminska. Colucci was able to hold the Rams scoreless. Garrett Branisel and Sean Joyce both had 4 hits each. The 9-run 6th inning was sparked by a bunt laid down by Corey Pryor.
 
April 8th
Schaumburg
Schaumburg Classic
W 1-0 Playing in the 5th place game of the Schaumburg Flyers Tournament, the Redhawks were engaged in a pitchers duel. The game went scoreless for seven innings. In the top of the 8th, Mike Odenthal tripled. Sean Joyce hit a sacrifice that scored Odenthal. Barry came back in and retired the Saxons 1-2-3. In one of the most dominant pitching performances this year, Barry only threw 68 pitches during the 8 inning game.
 
April 8th
Lake Park
Schaumburg Classic
W 5-0 Facing a must win situation, the Redhawks came through in the clutch. Colin Bates and Brian Colucci combined to pitch a shutout. Mike Odenthal, Tommy Kure, and Mike Polich all played out of position for the first two innings while normal starters were taking the ACT test. The Redhawks erupted in the bottom of the 6th to score 5 runs and take the lead. Garrett Branisel hit a double, and Derek Graham hit a key single that drove in 2 runs.
 
April 7th
At Stevenson
PPD
2-2
Hail caused the game to be called in the 4th inning during a 2-2 tie. Lou Johanns and Mike Odenthal accounted for the only Redhawk runs. Lou Johanns was pitching when the umpires called the game.
 

April 6th
New Trier
Schaumburg Classic

L 6-2 Another late-inning comback was not in the works for the Redhawks, as they played their opening game of the Schaumburg Classic. Garrett Branisel started the game off with a lead-off triple, but was unable to score. The top half of the second inning was the killer for the Redhawks, as the Trevians of New Trier scored 6 runs. The Redhawks were unable to score until the bottom of the 7th, where they were able to push two runs across, but it was too little too late. Kyle Kaminska and Sean Joyce pitched 6 scoreless innings, but the six runs scored in the second inning was the difference.
 

April 5th
At Joliet Catholic

 

L 12-4 The Redhawks were unable to capitalize on an early lead against one of the top teams in the state. 11 walks and 5 hit batsmen set the Redhawks back too far to catch up. Garrett Branisel swung the bat well, and Kevin Ericksen, Derek Graham, and Matt Barry provided the pitching. The Redhawks move into the Schamburg tournament tomorrow.
 
April 4th
Palatine
W 14-7 The Redhawks bats finally awoke during their match up with the Pirates of Palatine. Sean Joyce broke out of his slump when he drove in Garrett Branisel. Derek Graham, Lou Johanns, and Mike Odenthal all delivered with big hits. The 7 spot in the lineup stepped up big as Matt Vorderer and Mike Polich combined to drive in 4 RBI's. Brian Colucci started pitching and Freshman Pat Kaminska was able to pick up his first varsity win.
 
April 1st
Neuqua Valley
W 2-1 The walk-off Redhawks were able to squeeze out another win on a cold day. Colin Bates hit a sacrifice fly to right field that scored Derek Graham to win the game. Graham had doubled to left field. Lou Johanns pitched complete game 2 hitter in the winning effort.
     
March 31st
At Hoffman Estates
L 2-0 The Redhawks were unable to mount a late inning comeback against the Hawks of Hoffman Estates. 2 early runs off starting pitcher Sean Joyce proved to be costly as the Redhawks were shutout. Corey Pryor went 2 for 3 with a single and a double.
 
March 30th 2006
Lyons Township
W 8-7 The late inning heroics continued for the Redhawks, as they were able to achieve a victory in the last inning for the second day in a row. Trailing 7-1 going into the bottom of the 7th, victory looked far from reachable. The Redhawks clawed back. Garrett Branisel was able to culminate a 7 run comeback when he singled in the winning run. Kyle Kaminska pitched six strong innings, and Matt Barry notched the win.
 
March 29th 2006
Waubonsie Valley
W 5-6 The Redhawks defeated Waubonsie Valley in a walk-off fashion thanks to Lou Johanns 2 run single in the bottom of the 7th inning. Waubonsie Valley led 5-4 heading to the bottom of the seventh. Jake Hendrick led off the 7th with a walk and advanced to second on Sean Joyce’s single. Garrett Branisel laid down a two-strike bunt, but everyone was safe when Hendrick beat the throw to third. Sean Joyce was able to pick up the win by pitching two innings in relief of Brian Colucci.
 
March 28th 2006
Oswego
W 2-0 Kevin Ericksen and Matt Barry pitched the Redhawks to victory in their home opener. Allowing only 2 combined hits, the tandem held Oswego scoreless the entire game. Capitalizing on 3 Oswego errors, Mike Odenthal and Matt Vorderer were able to score the only two runs of the game.
 
March 25th 2006
At Palatine Fremd
W 6-4 The Redhawks started their season on the right foot as they defeated Palatine Fremd on the Road. Mike Odenthal connected on a home run, and Kyle Kaminska pitched a solid game. Lou Johanns was brought in to pitch in the final innings to put down a late-inning rally. Matt Barry and Pat Kaminska also contributed to the Redhawks win.
