The outlook for the 2001
season is as bright as ever for Redhawk football. The Varsity finished
the 2000 campaign with an 11-1 record and will have ten returning lettermen
for the 2001 season.
Leading the way will be Phil Horvath who started 9 games at quarterback and completed 59% of his passes. Also returning for the Redhawk offense will be receivers Tyke Spencer and Curt Benson. Spencer had 13 receptions for 299 yards as a junior and as a kick and punt returner Spencer compiled over 300 yards and returned one punt for a touchdown. The Redhawks will also welcome back the services of 2000 leading rusher Kyle Griffith, who ran 166 times for a total of 1145 yards. Also expected to add power in the backfield will be FB' s Jason Paquette and Kyle Schueler. Up front the Redhawks lost five linemen to graduation. However as in the past, the backups of 2000 should prove to be the heroes of 2001. Likely starters will be Center Brad Shipley, Guards Brendan Baskin, Justin Swartz and Jason Henderson, and Tackles Rob Bentley and Jeff Houghtaling. At TE, Brad Huffman and Curt Benson return as well. On defense, the Redhawks expect to be just as dominant in 2001 as in 2000. Returning for the RED SWARM will be LB's Mike Lucas, Matt Benson, Nick Ehrlich and Ryan Senica. Also coming off of a strong Junior year will be CB Bob Siciliano (26 tackles and 2 interceptions). Joining Siciliano in the secondary will likely be Josh Rubin, Matt Atkinson, Brad Matthews, A.J. Sagen, and John Martin. In the trenches the Redhawks will turn to DT Tom Arrigo lead the way up front. The Varsity squad will also welcome a talented Sophomore class who finished the 2000 season a perfect 9-0. |
