Teacher Recertification - Effective Fall of 2005

Clarifications

Standard Certificate Holders

  • These changes impact all certified teachers.  Teachers need to renew their certificates when they are up, not when they have completed the professional development activity. (i.e. Even if a teacher has completed all 120 CPDUs during their first two years of a five year cycle, they do not complete the Statement of Assurance until their five years are up.)
  • National Board Clarification:
    • If you are Nationally Board Certified, you have until the end of your 10 year certificate to complete your professional development requirement.  You will be asked to pay the fees for renewing your standard certificates.
    • If you went through National Board Process but did not obtain the certificate, you can use the process as your professional development activity.
  • The LPDC recommends completing this process even if teachers are retiring.  If you have further questions regarding this, please contact the ROE at 630-682-7150.
  • Teachers can record their professional development activities at any time into CERTS, but teachers can only submit their statement of assurance between Sept. 1st and March 1st. in the year their certificate expires.
  • Deadline for having information into CERTS is March 1st

  • Fee payment cannot begin until after April 1st - More information will be posted to this site as soon as it becomes available.
  • Just a reminder that teachers whose certificates are up this year can begin collecting activities for their next renewal cycle after April 1st.

Information regarding Standard Certificate Renewal - REVISED

Initial Certificate Holders

  • The KEY piece in being able to move from an Initial to Standard Certificate is to have completed 4 years of full time teaching.  IF you do not have 4 years and your certificate expires this year, you will renew your initial certificate for another 4 years.  You will receive information on this after April 1st from Human Resources.
  • The timeline for moving from and Initial to Standard Certificate has changed again.  You can submit your Statement of Assurance at any point but you cannot request a letter verifying employment until after May 1st.  The letter verifying employment, the Application for Teaching Certificate form (form 73-03C), the Certificate Registration form (form 73-10), and appropriate fees can then be submitted to the DuPage Regional Office of Education in Wheaton.  The regional office has promised to fulfill their end of this process because of the short amount of time left to make sure you get moved from and Initial to Standard by the end of June 30, 2005.
  • As more information becomes available, it will be posted on this website.

Just a note regarding degree information: "In the past ISBE did not track and record Degree Majors. Now, due to NCLB requirements, we have started gathering degree major data which allows more teachers to be considered highly qualified. If you have a degree listed above with an unknown major, or other inaccurate data, you can click on the "Edit Degree" link to the right of the degree you wish to update. In most cases we already have your transcripts on file for degrees that are required for certification." (direct from the OTIS website under Degrees)

  • An official transcript needs to be forwarded to the Regional Office of Education in order to have the certificates "approved".
  • At this point in time it is highly recommended to complete this task but not required.
  • Because of NCLB it may become required in the near future.
  • Human Resources cannot forward the transcripts you have on file with them to the Regional Office because state regulations require that they maintain official transcripts.
