District 203 Begins Work Laid
out by the Action Blueprint for Results:
In order to provide interactive ways for engaging the community, Naperville Community Unit School District 203 has developed the following framework for gathering community input based on the recommendations set forth by District 203s Action Blueprint for Results presented to the Board of Education in December 2000. The Action Blueprint for Results contains recommendations for improving communication, expanding the sources of revenue, and identifying what makes up a quality school district. District committees will be charged with enacting those recommendations. The committees that have formed include (1) the Communication Network Committee, (2) the Corporate Sponsorship Committee and (3) the Quality Assessment Committee. These committees will be comprised of community volunteers, many from the Future Direction Committee for the sake of continuity, as well as teachers, administrators and Board of Education Members. Board member Tim Costello said he is pleased to be involved in these
new committees. We as board members felt it was very important to become
involved in these committees, said Costello. Their work will, in
large part, determine the future of programming, communication and funding
for our school district.
The three committees are described below. 1) The Communication Network (CNP) Committee will deal with the communication strategies of the district. Committee members will be charged with evaluating the current communication efforts, defining the key audiences, developing a marketing plan and researching interactive communication tools, such as the districts Web site. In addition, the committee will determine the most effective ways to utilize community volunteers in the roles of ad hoc committee members. According to Mary Ann Bobosky, Director of Planning and Community Relations, communication is a key issue for the district. This committee has a very important job, said Mary Ann. Consistent and effective communication has emerged as a top concern among parents and community members, and improving, enhancing and expanding those efforts will be of vital importance to the success of all district endeavors. 2) The Corporate Sponsorship Committee will research the financial impact corporate sponsorships would have on the district and identify parameters for implementation of sponsorships. The FDC survey told us that parents and community members wanted the district to research alternative sources of income, including corporate sponsorships. Said Allen Albus, Assistant Superintendent for Finance, This committee will be charged with finding those sources and making sure that they are utilized in an appropriate manner. 3) The Quality Assessment Committee is charged with answering one question: How does the quality of the school district add value to the community at large? The committee will devise methods for measuring and report the advantages, or added values, of having students attend District 203 as opposed to other schools or school districts. District 203 is an outstanding school district. It is evident in our awards, test scores and per pupil expenditures and it is evident in the caliber of students that we turn out year after year, said Bobosky. We need to somehow quantify this and regularly communicate it to the Board of Education and to the public. All three committees have already begun to meet. Both the Communication Network Committee and the Corporate Sponsorship Committees will report to Superintendent Donald Weber in early May, with implementation scheduled for early July. The Quality Assessment Committee will present its first report by mid March. For more information contact: Mr. Allen Albus, Assistant Superintendent for Finance ([email protected]) |
