The Rotary Club of Naperville is comprised of approximately 125 professional and business people who support the following Rotary objectives:

The Object of Rotary

The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the idea of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

First: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service.

Second: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying by each Rotarian of his/her occupation as an opportunity to serve society.

Third: The application of the ideal of service by every Rotarian to his/her personal, business, and community life.

Fourth: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a work fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

Fund Raising Events

The Rotary Club of Naperville currently conducts two major fund raising events annually; the "House of Dreams Raffle" and the "Oktoberfest" which enable the Rotary Club of Naperville to support charitable and community causes. In 2000, the Oktoberfest will be held Columbus Day weekend, October 5th - 8th.

District 203 Support Activities

The major Rotary Club of Naperville programs in support of District 203 schools are "Career Insights" and "Interact."

Career Insights Intended primarily for high school, special requests for junior high will be considered. The program consists of:

  • Presentations

Business people who are among the "cream of the crop" in the business community will visit the school and deliver presentations which are focused on providing students with a realistic idea of what they can (or cannot) expect from the career they are considering. These talks will provide valuable input to young people before they make commitments to major fields of study.

  • Site Visits

A teacher or counselor will accompany a group of students (from six to 25, depending on interest and accommodations) to a business site for the purpose of career exploration. A general overview of the types of jobs being performed at the site will be provided and the requirements needed to qualify for these positions will be outlined.

  • Job Shadowing

Students are matched with volunteers according to their interests. An individual student will spend a half or full day with a host employer in a specific occupation.

  • Mentoring

Following a "job shadowing" experience, a student and a business person may continue a professional relationship in which the student might make regular visits to the business site throughout the school year in order to gain a deeper understanding of a particular field of interest.

  • Internships

Informal internships offer students a short-term work experience in a job that is related to his or her chosen field.

Interact Club An "Interact Club" is a Rotary sponsored combination service and social club for high school students. "Interact" stands for "international action." Interact clubs exist in 88 countries and 17 geographical areas. Interact is "International" since many Interact projects cut across geographic and political boundaries. Interact is "action focused" because its members are doers, young people who want to solve problems, improve the quality of life, and make new friends. Students do service projects for the school, the local community, and the international community.

The Rotary Club of Naperville sponsors an Interact club at Naperville Central High School. Their most recent project has been relief for the storm victims of Honduras. For more information, contact:
